Few industries play as vital a role in American economic independence as the Energy Industry. Companies in this industry are under tremendous pressure to locate or develop new sources of energy to reduce America’s dependence on foreign providers. Challenges… and opportunities abound in the Energy Industry:

  • Locating and tapping oil and natural gas
  • Burning coal more cleanly
  • Eliminating the dangers associated with transporting and storing nuclear waste.
  • Developing alternative energy infrastructure like constructing electric generating wind farms.
  • Improving the refining and distribution of bio-fuels.

As in manufacturing and utilities, the energy industry relies heavily on technology to increase productivity and profitability. A prime example is the oil and natural gas exploration sector. Skilled professionals with the ability to learn to operate and maintain high tech equipment are in great demand in this field.

“Employment opportunities will be best for those with previous experience and with technical skills, especially qualified professionals and extraction workers who have significant experience in oil field operations and who can work with new technology. More workers will be needed who are capable of using new technologies—such as 3-D and 4-D seismic exploration methods, horizontal and directional drilling techniques, and deepwater and subsea technologies—as employers develop and implement sophisticated new equipment.”
